Two Obedient Sons (Part 2 of 2)

Continued from

We have seen where God had cut a covenant with Abraham regarding the blessing of His seed.  In the heavenly courts, God will not do anything in the earth without man’s participation, because He gave man DOMINION over the works of His hands.

We know that from “before the foundation of the earth the Lamb of God was slain.”  Would it have been legal for God to sacrifice His only Son, if Abraham whose seed He had covenanted to bless was not prepared to do the same?

The devil if nothing else is a legalist. Indeed, as the Lamb of God was slain before even Adam was created, then as Lucifer the anointed cherub, he would have been privy to this information. (Obviously he never understood why or I’m pretty sure he would have done everything possible to stop Jesus from being crucified).

God proved Abraham’s willingness to obey Him and trust Him, thereby making the way clear for Him to bring forth His only Son Jesus into the earth and sacrifice Him for our sins.

So we fast forward in time, where Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane faced His situation. He was about to take on every imaginable sickness and disease of body and soul.  He was about to become sin. Our sin. His Father, the Holy God would have to turn His face from Him.  The absolute terror of what He was about to endure was upon Him.  Any minute now, the soldiers would come and it would begin. He was anguished to His very soul.

I think the rejection that He knew would come from His Father was what tore Him up more than anything.  In His agony He asked for “this cup to pass from Him.”

Wouldn’t you have done that?  Many of us would like to believe that we would not have, knowing what was at stake. If truth be told however, we would have copped out a long time ago. We would quite likely have copped out from the 40 days fast.  Remember Peter? “No sah!  Everybody might run but MI ‘ave yuh back! Nah deny yuh!” (In English – “No sir, I will never deny you”)  Then the test….. “Nuh yuh a one a dem Jesus follower?” “No sah! Never see ‘im before in a mi life. Mi no know nobaddy name so!” (In English – ” aren’t you one of those followers of Jesus?”  “I don’t know the man”)

In His complete obedience and submission to His Father as well as His unconditional love for us, He said the most beautiful words “yet not My will but Yours.”  And GOD’S will was done in the earth.  For by believing in His death and resurrection, believing He can forgive our sins, and confessing Him as Lord and Saviour, we are saved.

This is where we holler HALLELUJAH!!!!!!!
