Reward from man or God? (Part 1)

When you are anointed by God, all eyes are on you.  There will be people watching to see if you trip up, if they can benefit from an association with you, or if they can bless you.

When God gives you a great victory in your life, you are suddenly shoved into the spotlight and there is no doubt that God favours you.  When I say great victory, I am not talking about help with your daily needs.  I am not talking about being able to meet the monthly bills.  I am talking about victory over seemingly insurmountable odds. Where you go on the offensive and chase after the plunderers who have dared to capture your family.  Where you bring back all the victims and their goods and nothing is lost.

When Abram and Lot had parted, Lot eventually ended up living in Sodom. When he was captured and the news got to Abram, he took 318 men against a great army and took back what they stole. (Genesis 14)
On his return he was greeted by Melchezidek the great high priest, to whom he gave a tithe of 10 percent.  Based on the fact that Sodom was emptied out, goods and people all, this 10 percent was no miserly gift.  Along comes the King of Sodom who offers to Him all the goods if he will let the people go.  By right the spoils of war do belong to Abram and his men.

We need to remember that Sodom was a notoriously wicked place.  Do you believe that Abram should have taken a reward from this king?  We could argue and say, “he rescued the people, he should keep the spoils.”  Should we take money for our ministry from everyone who offers? Some seeds are weed seeds disguised as good seeds.  If you had a church and someone who you have helped turns out to have “connections” and they want to reward you, give you money to put on the new roof, would you accept?
