Love / Hate Relationship

I love technology. I love getting to know the inside how a program works inside/out.  One of my many talents that has served me well over the years is that you could give me any application (WordPerfect, Microsoft Office, TurboPay, Quickbooks etc)1) and I could learn it, and teach it within two weeks.

When I started blogging, my blogs eventually evolved to a point where I was not just satisfied with having an online journal.  I began to observe how I reacted to sites that I visited in terms of:

  • what made me stay
  • what turned me off
  • the aesthetics of the site.

I examined my site closely and realised that just using my favorite colours was not good enough.  I learned about colour blocking and compatible colours.  I learned to use themes and plugins to get my site to where I thought it should be so that the user experience was pleasurable and would cause them to recommend my site to their friends.

There I was – peacefully minding my own business when I came across LayersWP – Man that plugin changed my life!  I suddenly had a mobile responsive site.  No more zooming my screen to see the fine print.  Now, while I may be considered a techie, I ABSOLUTELY HATE PROGRAMMING!! – The vehemence is just to show you the degree to which I hate programming.  I have several friends that call me a closet programmer.  I can write you some great Access databases until something clicks in my mind that I am programming. BAM!!! Everything shuts down. At this point – I have to call on my friend Wayne for help and he is always gracious about it.

I was moving nicely along with Layers, enjoying the use of it so much that I purchased the Pro version.  THAT’S when the trouble started.  All of a sudden I could not see the changes I made when I logged out of Admin.  I was going NUTS trying to figure it out.  Enter Marc & David Perel the founders. When they realised that I was struggling to get the problem fixed, and was too frustrated to read the knowledgebase – stepped in, communicated with me all the way and solved the problem for me.  Afterwards, they told me what was wrong – but the personal touch wins everytime. Whether you are a novice or expert I do not hesitate to recommend this product for its ease of use, its customizability, and the company for its exceptional customer service.

Although this site is a work in progress, feel free to give me some feedback.

PS – Remember – I will be speaking at
