Identity Crisis (Part 2)

Continued from Identity Crisis

We left off the last discussion asking the question “why do we choose to identify ourselves with failure?”

The enemy has spent our entire lives enforcing word curses spoken over our lives by those in authority and ourselves.  We are all too familiar with the terms WORTHLESS, NO AMBITION, WILL NOT AMOUNT TO ANYTHING etc.  There are more subtle ones: THAT IS NOT YOUR SPEED, THIS IS TOO MUCH FOR YOU, ARE YOU SURE THAT YOU CAN HANDLE THAT, YOU DON’T HAVE WHAT IT TAKES TO BE A DOCTOR – TRY PLUMBING INSTEAD (I am not saying that there is anything wrong with a career in plumbing).

The enemy has one purpose and he IS doing his job : kill, steal, and destroy.  He kills your dreams, leaving you with  a feeling of worthlessness.  You eventually come to believe that there is nothing you can do about your situation, because everything you try your hand at fails. You lose hope.  The Bible say “hope deferred makes the heart sick” – Proverbs 13:12. In the Message version of the Bible it says “unrelenting disappointment leaves you heart sick” and in the Passion Translation “when hope’s dream seem to drag on and on, the delay can be depressing.”

The enemy steals your joy by leading you into sin. To sin is to separate ourselves from God.  Because we were made to be in communion with God, when we are separated, the unspeakable joy that we find in His Presence diminishes  rapidly.  Unless we find our way back to His side, we are sentencing ourselves to a life of unhappiness.

He destroys your faith and when this happens, you believe God for nothing. You become self reliant instead of God reliant.
