EXPECTANCY: Anticipatory belief or desire (dictionary.com). Every time I think of this word, I drool. Expectancy, hmmm – such a nice roll on the tongue. Expectancy- in anticipation of ….. more than I can think or imagine? Do you see where I am going?
For me, the word EXPECTANCY is such a delicious word. It speaks of beautiful happenings, a desire coming into being, it speaks of labouring, it speaks of delivery. When I exercise faith, I am expecting that what I believe is already coming to pass. Because I believe this, I am in the process of making preparations to receive it. If I fail to make these preparations then one of two things is happening:
- I did not really believe that I could have what I prayed for
- I am just plain lazy and lackadaisical
The Bible has a lot to say about both issues.
“He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him” – Hebrews 11:6
“Without faith it is IMPOSSIBLE to please God” – Hebrews 11:6 [emphasis mine]
“But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.” Revelation 2:8
Now that last one really gets to me. Look at who the doubters are being lumped with. You might think “I never did any of those things, why should I be lumped with them?” But think about it – not having faith, not expecting, not preparing to receive or deliver is to still birth, cause miscarriage or abort the purpose that has been seeded in your spirit.
The book of Proverbs is replete with insights on laziness and its rewards:
- lack of judgement – Proverbs 12:11
- poverty comes upon you like a bandit and scarcity like an armed man – Proverbs 6:11
- you become a brother to the destroyer -Proverbs 18:8
- you experience desire but get nothing – Proverbs 13:4
- you become a slave – Proverbs 12:24
When we desire what is not seen and expect it to come to pass we have to labour in prayer to bring it forth. This labouring in prayer does not mean you do not have enough faith, it means you are co-labouring with God to bring it on earth as it is in Heaven. Remember He gave us dominion over the earth. He will not break His word. He will not do anything in the earth without our participation.
