Our tendency when we hear prophetic words which speak of cloudiness is to automatically assume that there is doom and gloom on the horizon. I was speaking to my mentor last week when we had an opportunity to discuss this topic. He rightly quoted Hosea 4:6
My people are destroyed from lack of knowledge…
We tend to have a knee jerk reaction to circumstances and subsequently pray out of our emotions, not seeking the will of God. An example that stands out in my mind is something I read in a book by Dutch Sheets (I cannot remember the name at this time, but at a later date I will look for it and give the full quotation). Some intercessors on an island were praying about an impending hurricane, declaring that the hurricane must not strike the island, it must be turned back etc. The Lord does listen His intercessors (they did speak with one voice on this issue). The hurricane did not strike the island. The island experienced drought for five years. You see, no one asked God what was His purpose in the hurricane.
A cloudy sky does not necessarily mean doom. Will there be rain if there are no dark clouds? In the Namib Desert, when the sky over the mountains get dark, rain is coming. It may look far off in the horizon, and far removed from your current situation of dryness, but it is coming. Be encouraged. God is present in your situation. Celebrate. How do I know this? The book of Nahum says “The clouds are the dust of His feet1)Nahum 1:3” He is there in the situation. Whatever situation you face, remember God is always present. Before you panic, ask Him what is His will in this circumstance. Our trust in Him must be so complete, that our first reaction must be prayerfully asking Him what He desires in this situation and obey His will.
Remember that clouds in the Bible represent the presence of God. The Presence of the Lord was in the pillar of the could by day2)Exodus 13:22, thick clouds covered Mount Sinai3)Exodus 24:16, when Solomon dedicated the Temple the Glory of God came down in a thick cloud4)2 Chronicles 5:13, we are told that Jesus’ second coming will be in the clouds5)Acts 1:9, Rev 1:7.
When you see clouds on the horizon rejoice – He said “Behold I come to you in a thick cloud…..”6)Exodus 19:9
He is already there in the situation, cheer Him on with your praises.
