Too often we move around without any sort of reference point. It is as if our compass is defunct. I know for a great part of my life, I did just that. I did what I wanted, when I wanted, how I wanted. In my journey back to God, (He did not move – I did), I learnt about submission, respect for authority, His enduring love, mercy and compassion, His justness, His wisdom all through His Word which, I admit, I had ignored for most of my Christian life. That was a good 35 years of wandering in the wilderness that I did not have to do. I relied on the “wisdom” of others when all I had to do was to pick up the Bible and read for myself. I repeated all the “sage talk” – you know – how the Bible contradicts itself, how God can be cruel, the Bible is a history book and nothing else, etc.
I came to understand that reading the Bible to find an accusation against God is different from reading to understand His heart for His people. – Yep, that’s us. In reading and asking the Holy Spirit to teach me, I realised that God’s heart was and is always to draw us back to Him. But any covenant that we enter into has its do’s and don’ts so it is when we enter into Covenant with God.
The long and short of it is this. We all need direction in our lives. What is it that will give us this direction. I can speak for myself – The Better Direction is towards the Word of God
